The Social Work Compact in District of Columbia

A Social Work Licensure Compact bill has been introduced in District of Columbia but not enacted. What that means for social workers who want to see clients in District of Columbia, and when you need the LICSW itself.

Concierge licensing for social workers in District of Columbia, from eligibility check to issued license.

A District of Columbia Compact Bill Is Pending

Compact status checked 2026-10-08 against swcompact.org

District of Columbia is not a Social Work Licensure Compact member. A bill to join has been introduced, but nothing changes until it is enacted, and even then no state is issuing multistate licenses yet. Plan on a District of Columbia license.

Compact status moves: more states join each session, and the Commission expects to open multistate licensing around 2027. This page reflects our last check, not a live feed, so confirm a state's status before relying on it.
